History and Legacy

Without doubt the longevity, stability and success of the John Henry Group, stems from the focus on our family ethos, which was established by John Henry Snr, who founded our business in 1985. John has always valued, looked after and appreciated his staff and in turn delivered the best, most honest service for his clients.

John celebrated early success with his business, by building relationships with British Telecom (BT) in 1986. His company grew and it wasn’t long before John’s sons Pat, Jim and John Jnr joined the company.

Although John Snr retired in 2008, the business is still family owned and has never forgotten the importance of their family values, ensuring they value people and relationships, both within the business and with their clients.

John Henry Group’s ultimate goal remains to work towards engineering excellence by helping partner clients successfully grow and manage their infrastructure footprints.

The Group’s expertise now allows us to provide a competitive and extremely reliable service with high quality workmanship, project management knowledge.

After enjoying a period of growth, starting in 2015, John Henry Group attracted private investment in 2016 from Growth Capital Partners, to assist with developing and growing the business carefully and exploring new family markets. The Henry family still retain a majority share in the company.

In 2017, John Henry Group opened the new K4 Operations Centre at their head office in Cambridge. A modern air-conditioned building set over four floors where the plans for building tomorrow’s ‘next generation’ telecoms infrastructure will be actioned. The building was named in honour of John Snr, who used the name K4 as a call sign to communicate with his sons on wireless band radio in the early days of the business.

The new building brings together all of our project teams into one central office, supported by the existing ‘Mount’ building, which was fully redesigned and refurbished a few years earlier.

In 2018, John Henry Group released a new business vision called ‘Recharging Our Future’ developing a new business strategy with their investors and delivering core values of Excellence, Forward Thinking and Together which is shared by colleagues, and reflects both the history of the company and their vision for the future.
