Burnt Tree Vehicle Rental invited John Henry Group to participate in a five-a-side football tournament in early July. The event was held at Portman Road, home to Ipswich Town Football club. Ten teams took part in the tournament which saw a good standard of play and some exciting matches.
JHG got off to a shaky start losing the first game as well as losing a player to injury. However, spurred and motivated on by the disappointment of losing the opening game, JHG went on to comfortably win the next three games and top the group. The team were solid in defence, and used this to their advantage hitting teams on the counter attack. It was a frustrating first half in the semi-final against the hosts. Wasted opportunities saw JHG go into the half time break 1-0 down. The lack of a substitute meant there was little rest bite, cramp was striking down players like there was a sniper in the stands. However, JHG continued to dominate possession and in the second half some clinical finishing, as well as a hat trick hero taking JHG into the final.
JHG were the fan favourites in the final after gaining respect throughout the day. The team didn’t disappoint the crowd and took an early lead in the opening minutes. At 3-1 up the team looked comfortable, but one lapse in concentration saw them pegged back to 3-2 with only two minutes remaining. After almost three hours of football throughout the day the team had to dig deep and gave it everything to defend the lead to the final whistle. A fingertip save to push the ball onto the post in the final seconds was enough to see the team to victory. The celebrations continued into the early hours…
