John Henry Communications have been busy continuing their trials of FTTH (fibre to the home) trenching and installation techniques for their sister company Fibrewave (www.fibrewave.net). The main objective is to find a much reduced cost of installing infrastructure in footway pavements. This will allow telecom providers to extend their networks in a cost effective manner, which is compliant with the NRSWA specification for reinstatement. Initial findings are looking promising, with potentially upto 50% savings in civil installation cost. Using blown fibre and microducting, trials are continuing to look at innovative ways of installing to the customer premises using no-dig technology.
